To do this amazing ride you will need something with knobblies on and some off road skills as well as 10 dollars NZ. The ride for real starts at Dog Kennel Corner, follow the Halden Road, which is a gravel road, for 50 Km. When you reach the Black Forest Farm Station you will to pay the 10 bucks for the code of the gate at Lake Benmore. There is no way out of the track at the far end so dont even think about cheating on the 10 bucks. The ride consists of a service track for the pylons so is only lightly maintained. The track follows the contours of the hills upto 800m with long drop offs and steep rocky hair pins. There is an alluvial fan to cross near the end, with the steepest part of the ride to follow. Take your time all you will enjoy amazing views but concentrate on the terrain as you dont want to drop off the side.
