BTW, following the road is easy with the exception of an ambiguous side road that can easily be mistaken for the FR42 route. The junction is Y shaped and one should keep left. There is no sign posting here, but there are bicycle road paintings that show the way with the number 42 on the tarmac.
With good tarmac and wonderful views of Mount Hood, Forest Rd 42 is by far the best route between the Estacada-Detroit Scenic Byway and Hwy 26. Ride from west to east and enjoy the majesty of Mt. Hood. The scenic beauty of Mt. Hood over Timothy Lake may be the most spectacular in all of Oregon - stop for lunch and soak it up!
