Excellent road, but watch out for the police speed van in Chepstow. Usually up just past A49/A466 roundabout, has side front and back cameras :-(
I did this route last October as part of a trip around the Forest of Dean. It was a very nice road and it wasn't too busy so I enjoyed it greatly :)
Road surface is breaking up in places, some roadworks at the moment south of the river crossing, where they are patching it up, but the patches aren't level ad have overbanded edges. Still fun but watch the surface.
Chepstow to Monmouth along A466 a single track rd with lots of bends and fast corners lots to see along the way like TIntern abby you got Forrest all the way lots of cafe's for that quick pit stop there are a few hills but mostly flat and twisty a brilliant rd for sports bikes I would say this is a road not to be missed .
Nice route roads arn't great but it's very scenic, nice cafe at tintern abbey where bikes tend to congregate.
Love riding this route. Once out of Chepstow passed the race course, the corners are a good mix of twistys until Tintern (with some great views of the Abbey). After Tintern the road opens nicely as you follw the Wye Valley north towards Monmout. Great Views all the way!
Rode this route quite a few times. Love the round route of Chepstow to Monmouth on A466, then A4136 uphill into Forest of Dean, then right at A4151 Cinderford junction then A48 back to Chepstow. A466 is a joy riding next to the Wye past Tintern Abbey - v fast sections through tree canopies. Ascending A4136 is especially good - some excellent corners. Scenery is fab throughout. Top marks!
Road crosses from Wales to Gloucestershire to Wales. Tintern is worth a stop. Some tight corners. A scenic Ride. From Monmouth take the road to Cinderford - Ruspidge - Soudley - Blakeney and back to Chepstow on A48 to make a round trip.
Need to take care some twisty corners which could become tricky in wet, overall a good ride.
But - watch out for the longitudinal ruts on the road surface in the tree-canopied section a short distance south of Monmouth.
Rode this in the opposite direction last Sunday, on a "Ride to Arrive" course - very enjoyable, great view of Tintern Abbey
This road is worth a detour if you are in the area. The corners flow well and there is good variation. The scenery is brilliant but the road needs your attention if you are travelling quickly. Once you reach Monmouth the A4136 to Cinderford and then Huntly is worth a trip - watch out for the sheep!
A really nice bit of scenary and a pretty good road that follows the Wye up from the Severn crossing to Monmouth. Easy access from the M48 J2
