Fantastic stretch of road nice bends, straights and scenery really couldn't fault it. The stretch between the tunnel and the downhill twisties thru the woods was my favourite section and this will definitely be a regular outing when the sun shines.
Petersfield to Winchester
Have seen a few bikes come off at the crossroads at West Meon Hut - there always seems to be a lot off stones on the road. Keep an eye out. Loomies Dinner (Just past the petrol station at the crossroads does a great fry-up and is very bike/car freindly)
I have ridden this stretch of road a lot midweek in the last 2 years and have rarely seen the police. Enjoyable and reasonably challenging ride but can get very busy. Worth stopping off at Loomies in West Meon for a bike friendly cafe and meet at the weekends.
Went there on the recommendation from this site. Great road overall, but do be careful of the villages, just as you get into the ride, up pops a village and you have to go sub-sonic again. A fair amount of police presence, although other riders do help to give advance warning. Loomies Cafe at West Meon is a top place for a cuppa, very friendly and a welcome break! Only real drawback is that fact that the road is so short! If it was twice as long itd be awesome!
It is a great run and a route which you can have some very good fun on. I use it quite regularly, especially during the week when it is less congested. Police presence is about normal for this type of route and I have seen an unmarked car about. Lovely downhill sweeper just before the end as you approach Winchester. Makes a nice change from the West Meon to Petersfield run, or do both!
CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!! I LIKE IT
A great road to have some fun on just don,t leave your brain at the start.I think that the best bit is from west meon hut to Petersfield. All of the guy that come to our bike night on mondays at Red Lion Stubbington all give this road at least 8 out of 10, go try it for yourself.
Excellent route in general but especially the west meon to petersfield section. A couple of long sweeping constant radius bends, a nice steep twisty section through some trees and a tunnel where you can pull in the clutch and rev the knackers off it make this great fun. Can have a lot of police about, especially at weekends and wednesday nights when all the local clubs seem to be out.
Been running this route for years. A good mixture but slow down where there are dwellings and watch out for police at weekends, they know all the biking roads in the Meon Valley. Attack it during the week and you should be ok. As you get toward Winchester there is a fantastic bit with flat out potential along the top of the down and a mega crest-of-a-hill right hander adjacent to Cheesefoot Head. Beware of cars pullin out slowly should you barrell into this bend from high speed. Afterwards it is a nice downhill twist to the end.
Live in Kent and whenever I go west I head for it, an excellent ride
One of my favourite stretches, prefer to do it from "The Hut" westwards, there is a fantastic right hander about 2 miles from the end that sweeps and tightens up to give a real blood rush, just before it alll opens out to fields for a balls out blast to the end. Make sure you stick in a few laps of the Spitfire roundabout complex near Winnal - before going into Tescos for a fry up. Nirvana.
Did this route last night after seeing it on here. Went from winchested to the McDonlads by the A3 roundabout, stopped for a cuppa, then did a return route. Nice road (bar a few bits of horse muck by a farm). I am new to biking and was good practice. There was a unmarked police car patroling it though that had pulled over 2 bikes when I went past it. Thumbs up for the route, beware of unmarked police cars though.
One of Hampshires best biking roads, an understandable police presence in high season as it has a reputation for bad accidents although these have reduced significantly over recent years. The occasional bit of crap from the farms but generally a great road.
Went and had a look on recomendation, and it is fun, but was busy enough to stop from me from going silly, but I still managed to have some fun. It is very easy to see how it can catch you out. you could go mental for a lot of it, but if it went wrong...
I enjoy this route many a time myself though I do tend to only stick to the bit between West Meon to Petersfield, and then I normally come from Portsdown hill up the A32. What out for Police along these area's and do be carefull as a large number of bikers have died on these roads, it can easily catch you off guard. Grinch
A nice run consisting of a few different types of corners. Good road surface but keep your eyes open for Police.
A nice blast down from Winchester to Petersfield. I heard that police presence has been increased on this route after a biker got busted at nearly 140mph, not sure if it's true, but might be useful to be aware of this fact.
